Testimonies From There

Recently, some friends and I from church had a sweet day. We went to the store and got some food/drinks to make lunch for the homeless people that often hang out in a local park. We had fun meeting them and making/eating lunch with them, while hearing some of their stories. These people seemed so hurting and in need of love and relationships. One guy couldn’t walk much due to a bone spur/leg problem that was real painful, and we prayed for him to be healed. After we finished, he was skeptical and said he needed to go get his pain medication from his bag to make them feel better. He walked over to the bag, and when he walked back he said, “Man, it’s weird but my legs are feeling better, the pain’s gone and I feel totally better.” Healed!
Upon hearing this, one of the other guys piped up and asked if we could pray for him as well. He had gotten an MRI the day before on his shoulder, showing that he had a torn shoulder rotator cuff (which one of my friends recently had to have surgery to fix). He couldn’t lift up his arm much at all due to pain/injury, and we prayed for healing and he started moving his arm all around to check it. He said all the pain was gone and that it felt 100% healed (“It’s like it was when I used to play football,” he said), and he could move his arm around completely normally. God is awesome!

This story has been modified to omit name of the country and Christian worker
Awhile ago, they started kicking out missionaries in a large-scale, focused, and country wide effort that left no major city or nationality untouched. Apparently, our business project gave us some added longevity as we still were in the country. In June, the police summoned me to the police station just days before our mission organization required us to return to the States for their biennial (every two years) conference.
After many questions, the police commissioner gave me an official order to leave the country within 48 hours. Since March, all 121 missionaries and aid workers kicked out were unable to stay or get back in the country (with the exception of one unusual case).
The U.S. Consulate here also confirmed the irreversible nature of these expulsion orders. They said that there is nothing that can be done. I was one of 12 Americans served an expulsion notice on that day in June.
As these events began to unfold, people started praying. Our home base was already doing a corporate fast so many added us to their prayer roster. Prayer began to mount. Although we did not plan to leave, we began realizing that our lives were about to change. We didn’t want to even begin to think about the arduous process we faced of liquidating an apartment and its belongings which have served as our home for the last 6 years.
Mostly, we felt sad because of some recent positive fruit in the work here and our desire to see that develop. Then, a mountain began to move.
The U.S. Consulate contacted me early two days after serving me an expulsion notice stating that significant discussions had occurred between Washington, the U.S. Ambassador, and the local State Department. They informed me that my expulsion order was permanently canceled!!! A mountain had been cast into the sea! What seemed impossible became possible.

Recently I’ve been going through a “dark night of the soul” so to speak – feeling like I’m flat on my face as I press into God more. I felt like I was supposed to go to Ignite Chicago, a Christian music festival, last weekend as I knew the time of just focusing on God and what He had to say to me through the songs would be healthy. At the same time I was hesitant because I wasn’t sure if I could afford it.
Several things popped up that seemed to be blocking me going: 1. I wasn’t able to buy tickets on Friday which meant I would have to buy them at the door, which was more expensive. 2. After the torrential rains on Friday night several of the roads up there were flooded out. 3. I woke up much later than planned and therefore arrived 1.5 hours after I’d hoped to.
But in faith I went, praying for provision, praying my car would make it through the flooded streets, praying I wasn’t totally missing God and His direction for this weekend. After parking and heading for the gate I found the ticket line and thought, “Okay, God, here goes!” Less than a minute later a man walked up and asked me if I was in line to buy a ticket. I said I was, assuming he was trying to find the line in order to buy them himself. Instead he handed me a wristband, told me it was all that I needed to get in, and walked away. I tried to tell him how blessed I was by this, and he said, “God wants you to be here today.”
That still left Sunday’s ticket, but halfway through the day they announced that because the field was flooded on Saturday, Sunday’s tickets were half price. I was able to attend for far cheaper than I had anticipated because of the way everything worked out.
That would have been blessing enough, but because hearing God has been extra challenging recently, it was a beautiful reminder that He did want me there, He did want me pressing into Him, and He will be faithful to meet me.
Bonus: I had emailed my family the story and when I talked to my mom on the phone last night she asked if it was an angel who gave me the wristband as she couldn’t figure out how else I would get it. My parents worry a lot about money, so I think God’s faithfulness to me has also helped them trust God more for finances.

A few weeks ago, I was preaching the gospel at COD with some friends Nate and Jeremy. I met 3 guys on the football team & told them about Jesus. In the process of doing this, we found out that one guy had dislocated his shoulder and only had partial movement in it. We prayed for him, and within 3 minutes, he had all of his motion back and he was healed of all of his pain!!!!

Salvation As a Birthday Gift?
I want to tell you about something encouraging that happened to me the other day. I was on facebook and a friend from high school initiated a facebook chat to tell me happy birthday. As I haven’t spoken to him since high school I asked him about his life and how he is doing. A little ways into it I found out he became a Christian about a year ago.
This was really encouraging for me because he was one of many people who I prayed for on a regular basis when I was back in high school. Yet despite my prayers I never saw any of them turn away from nominal Christianity and turn to Jesus. To hear that years later – I graduated 9 years ago – he answered those prayers, well, that is the best birthday present I ever could have asked for! It has also given me renewed hope for the other classmates I prayed for, as well as renewed encouragement to continue to be faithful in prayer. Because he does answer them, even if I don’t always see it.

DayATS South Africa Trip
For 2 1/2 weeks, I went with a team of ATS students to Capetown South Africa. We spent time preaching the gospel, praying for miracles, and starting house churches. By the time the trip was over, 16 people had come to Christ, 7 more people re-committed their lives to Christ, and we were able to see the start of 4 house churches!!!

Cartilage Grows in a Knee
A few weekends ago I went to a seminar in Lombard, IL entitled Supernatural Lifestyle hosted by Kingdom Sending Center. And while I was there a 12 year old girl was hobbling around on crutches. When I looked at her God gave me a word of knowledge that the problem was not her foot, but her knee. After the lunch break I asked her “hey, what’s wrong with your knee?” She was pretty astonished because everyone at school or around town asks her “what’s wrong with your foot?”
In amazement she went on to tell me that while trying to climb over the back seat of an SUV her foot got stuck between the seats and she fell over and it twisted her knee out of place. She got a surgery that is pretty common for track and basketball stars in which they take cartilage out from under the knee cap to get the bones back in order. She said that because she is 12 years old the cartilage will grow back quickly as opposed to many months for adults.
Regardless I tell her “God is going to cause this cartilage to grow right now.” I command the cartilage to grow and while doing that I feel movement under her knee cap and I heard God tell me “she feels fire, ask her if she feels it.” I did and she admitted to feeling a heat, meanwhile some people standing behind me praying said they saw fire on her knee. I took all this to mean that the Spirit was there and He was healing her. I asked her some questions about what she could and could not do on the knee, whether or not it hurt to walk on it, etc. She said it hurt to put pressure on it and that she could only lift it back so much. She said she is not able to lift it past 90 degrees… I said with a slight laugh “try it now.. hehe” she did and to her amazement she had full range of motion and it no longer hurt.
After regrouping for the second half of the conference I shared from the stage what God had done and while I was on stage I got a word of knowledge that someone had a left rotator cuff injury. When no one raised their hands, a leader told me to ask if someone knew someone with that injury. I did and to her amazement a girl who had just spoken about a man she passed up praying for at work admitted that the man she passed up has that problem and she felt that my word of knowledge was a invitation by God to go pray for him.
Isn’t God good!?

Thea’s “Must Read” Story
This is about my friend Brian and his brother Keith.
I went to high school with Brian, but he was younger than me, his brother Keith was my age. Keith has Cancer – it’s bad and he’s dying. Both brothers and parents grew up Jehovah Witness, Brian and his wife and kids have become good friends of ours for several years, as we have reconnected with them, they live in Tucson AZ, and every year we go out and visit and spend time with them. We have never really discussed our faith before with Brian, however his wife Kim grew up in a christian home and was taking the kids to church. A year ago in February (2009) I was in church and was just asking God for what he wanted and Brian came to my mind – Andy and I had just gotten our tax return (it was sizable) and I was breathing a sigh of relief that we might have a few months of budget (as money was really thin for us last year) – on that Sunday, God not only put Brian on my mind but he told me to write him a check (the amount of the check I was not positive on but I thought it was $6000 that God was telling me) – my first reaction was, “Why God – they don’t need it – Kim (Brian’s wife) is a Doctor and they are very well off ” – God said, ” I want his attention, and this will get it!” – As you can imagine, what a hard request this was for me, what a test this was for me. When we got out of church I told Andy what God said and he said, “send the money!” – I continued to ask God for clarification on the amount of the check and continued to fight with the idea in my flesh. Later that day I called Brian and said, “Hey Bri, God was talking to me about you today – he had you on my mind – Brian’s reaction was, “What did I do wrong?” – I said, “No Bri, He really loves you and he asked me to send you something , so I’m going to pop it in the mail today” – he gave me his address and I put a note in with the check that “God loved him and he wanted Brian’s attention” that’s why he asked me to send the money. 5 days went by, and Brian called on that Friday night – he’s words to me were ” you have my attention” – I said, “I don’t want your attention – God does” – we began talking about “religion” and how he shunned it and I spoke of relationship and the difference – we talked about his brother and I asked if I could pray with him – he said NO. He also said that he could not accept the check, however he had been thinking about buying a Bible and reading it to check out Christianity – so he said that I was to send a check for $75 to buy the Bible he wanted and he was ripping up my big check. He also thanked me and I asked what else we could do, and he said he wanted us to come and visit, so I prayed God would make a way for us to afford to fly out there. At the women’s retreat that is what I praying for, wisdom on whether to spend money (that we really didn’t have) to go to Tucson. Soon after that a business trip for me came up to Phoenix AZ, which is 90 minutes from Tucson, I was able to get cheap tickets and we all went to Tucson AZ memorial day weekend 2009. When we visited with Brian and Kim, we didn’t talk God at all, not till the last 5 minutes before we left, Bri pulled out his new Bible, we talked a bit, I told him to start in John and explained how the book was laid out. We left and through out the past year I’d call every so often to just say hi and tell them we loved them. On Easter Sunday this year (2010), I said to Andy on the way to church, how sad I was that we have not yet been out to visit Brian this year and how I hoped they were well. Later that afternoon Brian called, (out of the blue), he said to me, “Happy Easter Thea!” “I wanted to wish you a Happy Easter, as this is my first Easter I’ve ever celebrated and it is because of you that I am”, He said he had questions that he got answers for from someone at his church and how thankful he was for me a big part in his decision. – I was speechless – thrilled! I had felt like God had told me the year before that Brian was the key to his family knowing Christ, and when I shared the story with my mom on Easter, she shared that Brian had been bringing his mom to church and things were changing in the family (my mom and Brian’s mom are BEST FRIENDS) – God is so faithful – and I feel so privileged to have been able to play a part in Brian’s salvation – isnt’ that cool? Now , so you know Keith, his older brother still has cancer and I am praying for healing of him, but also for salvation for that entire family! It will happen!
Please lift up this family that they would all be saved and that God would remove cancer from Keith’s body.
